Your Card For Change funds the Plastic Odyssey expedition

True to its commitment to biodiversity, MCB is supporting the arrival of the Plastic Odyssey laboratory vessel in Mauritius as part of the Your Card For Change initiative. Since May 2019, this initiative enables each MCB debit card holder to become a biodiversity change agent. For each debit card transaction made by one of its clients, MCB contributes 10 cents to a fund to finance conservation projects led by partner NGOs such as the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation (MWF), Ebony Forest and others. It was also this fund that allowed the reintroduction last year of an extinct plant in Mauritius, the Cylindrocline Lorencei, in collaboration with the Conservatoire National de Brest. The latest funded project to date: the Plastic Odyssey expedition in the Indian Ocean. The vessel left  Marseille in October 2022 for a three-year world tour, and will be in Port-Louis from 14 April 2025.

In line with MCB Group’s raison d'être

As an island state, Mauritius is particularly affected by plastic pollution, which is a direct threat to its biodiversity. MCB’s support for Plastic Odyssey is fully in line with its purpose,Success Beyond Numbers (SBN). MCB’s support to Plastic Odyssey is logical and has several objectives. The main one is to define recycling solutions and sustainable alternatives to reduce plastic pollution in our lagoons, as well as in the Indian Ocean. In addition to finding long-lasting solutions to the problem of plastic pollution, educational sessions and conferences scheduled during the stopover in Mauritius will raise awareness among the public and local entrepreneurs about issues related to plastic waste and recycling solutions.

Sustainability

It is our conviction that we have a responsibility to create sustainable prosperity for our customers, communities, people, and country. That is why we have decided to redefine the very meaning of success and go well beyond numbers.
